What does Comprehensive Car Insurance cover?
-
Included benefits
-
Optional benefits
¹ Driver exclusions apply if the driver is unlicensed, is not following the conditions of their license, refuses a drug or alcohol test, is under the influence of drugs or exceeds the legally allowed alcohol limit. Refer to the Comprehensive Car Insurance or Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance PDS for full driver, usage and other policy exclusions as set out in the "What's not covered" section. An additional excess applies to drivers under 25.
⁴ We'll arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car after a covered collision where you are not at fault and have provided us with the at fault person's details. You'll get the rental car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $50 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.
⁵ If you choose your own repairer, we may need a second quote from another repairer chosen by us just to make sure the quote you've received is reasonable. We may then authorise repairs, pay you reasonable repair costs or the car’s agreed value or replace your new car where policy conditions are met.
- No excess for windscreen damage only claims
With this option, you won't have to pay the excess for one full windscreen, window glass or sun roof replacement and two repairs in each period of insurance. - Rental car after any covered incident
With this option, you’ll receive a rental car after covered incidents such as weather events or a collision that is your fault. If we can’t arrange one, receive a $50 a day travel allowance.6
⁶ If you choose this option, we will arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. This will apply after any covered incident, no matter who is at fault. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $50 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

Frequently asked questions
Insuring your car
Each insurance company calculates the cost of car insurance differently.
The cost of your car insurance is determined by a range of factors.
When calculating your car insurance premium, we consider factors such as:
- the age, driving experience and claims history of the person who drives the car most
- the year, make and model of your car
- the location your car is parked
To find out how much you would pay for our Comprehensive Car Insurance, get your quote.
Comprehensive car insurance is not mandatory in Australia but there are benefits to having it. If you choose not to take out comprehensive car insurance and you or the driver of your car is at fault in an accident, you will be responsible for the cost of any damage to your own car as well as for the damages caused to any third party property.
Did you purchase your car with a loan? Some financial institutions might require you to have comprehensive car insurance if you took out a loan to purchase your car.
When you take out Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance, we’ll agree on an amount with you that we’ll cover your car for. We call this the 'agreed value'.
It's up to you to decide how much cover you need (within a given range). As a guide, it should be enough to replace your car if a covered incident happened and your car couldn’t be repaired.
You will also need to factor in:
- any modifications, options or accessories that have been made or added to the car
- GST
- registration and any CTP insurance
- on-road costs like stamp duty, dealer delivery, dealer warranty costs or transfer fees.
You can always find the agreed value in your policy documentation.

Cover for damaged windscreens is provided by your Allianz Comprehensive Car insurance policy, subject to payment of any applicable excess shown in your policy documentation.
