Our Comprehensive Car Insurance covers your car, plus damage you cause to other people's cars or property. Whether you drive an EV or a traditional car, our cover is designed to help give you confidence on the road.

  • Any driver coverage
We'll cover anyone you give permission to drive your car. Driver and usage exclusions apply.1
  • Agreed value
When you take out your policy, we’ll agree on an amount with you that we’ll cover your car for. You may want to include other costs such as accessories, modifications or on-road costs.
  • Loss or damage to your car (including theft)
Cover for accidental damage, fire, flood, theft and storm (including hail damage).
  • New car replacement after total loss within two years of manufacture
If your new car is stolen or written off, you can choose for us to pay you the agreed value or to have your new car replaced with one of the same make and model where available in Australia.
  • Transport costs
We'll reimburse you for the costs of travelling from the scene of the accident or to or from the repairer or rental car provider (up to $500).
  • Rental car after a collision that wasn't your fault and the other driver is identified
Receive a rental car after a collision that wasn’t your fault and the other driver's details are provided. If we can’t arrange one, get a $50 a day travel allowance.4
  • Choice of repairer
We'll help find you one, or you can choose your own.5
  • Baby capsules and child seats
We’ll pay to replace any damaged or stolen child seat or baby capsule in your car at the time of a covered incident (up to $500 per seat) unless the car itself isn't damaged or stolen.

¹ Driver exclusions apply if the driver is unlicensed, is not following the conditions of their license, refuses a drug or alcohol test, is under the influence of drugs or exceeds the legally allowed alcohol limit. Refer to the Comprehensive Car Insurance or Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance PDS for full driver, usage and other policy exclusions as set out in the "What's not covered" section. An additional excess applies to drivers under 25.

⁴ We'll arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car after a covered collision where you are not at fault and have provided us with the at fault person's details. You'll get the rental car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $50 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

⁵ If you choose your own repairer, we may need a second quote from another repairer chosen by us just to make sure the quote you've received is reasonable. We may then authorise repairs, pay you reasonable repair costs or the car’s agreed value or replace your new car where policy conditions are met.

       Choose more benefits (extra cost)
  • No excess for windscreen damage only claims
With this option, you won't have to pay the excess for one full windscreen, window glass or sun roof replacement and two repairs in each period of insurance.
  • Rental car after any covered incident
With this option, you’ll receive a rental car after covered incidents such as weather events or a collision that is your fault. If we can’t arrange one, receive a $50 a day travel allowance.6

⁶ If you choose this option, we will arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. This will apply after any covered incident, no matter who is at fault.  If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV)  to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $50 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

Comprehensive car insurance covers your car, plus damage you cause to other people’s cars or property. It does not cover your liability to pay compensation if you cause injury to another person. Get your quote.

Each insurance company calculates the cost of car insurance differently.

The cost of your car insurance is determined by a range of factors.
When calculating your car insurance premium, we consider factors such as:

  • the age, driving experience and claims history of the person who drives the car most
  • the year, make and model of your car
  • the location your car is parked

Comprehensive car insurance is not mandatory in Australia but there are benefits to having it. If you choose not to take out comprehensive car insurance and you or the driver of your car is at fault in an accident, you will be responsible for the cost of any damage to your own car as well as for the damages caused to any third party property.

Did you purchase your car with a loan? Some financial institutions might require you to have comprehensive car insurance if you took out a loan to purchase your car.

When you take out Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance, we’ll agree on an amount with you that we’ll cover your car for. We call this the 'agreed value'.

It's up to you to decide how much cover you need (within a given range). As a guide, it should be enough to replace your car if a covered incident happened and your car couldn’t be repaired.

You will also need to factor in:

  • any modifications, options or accessories that have been made or added to the car
  • GST
  • registration and any CTP insurance
  • on-road costs like stamp duty, dealer delivery, dealer warranty costs or transfer fees.

You can always find the agreed value in your policy documentation.

Our Comprehensive Car Insurance provides cover for accidental loss or damage to your car, as well as your legal liability for the damage you cause to other people’s cars or property. Some examples of loss or damage to your car covered by this insurance includes:

  • Motor accidents such as a collision with another car
  • Theft
  • Fire damage
  • Storm damage
  • Hail damage
  • Damage whilst your car is parked

Our Comprehensive Car Insurance provides cover for electric vehicles, including your battery, charging cables, wall chargers and mounts3. View the PDS for more information on what’s included in our Comprehensive Car Insurance.
If you are driving another person’s car, you should always check their insurance policy details to confirm whether you’re covered. You will not be covered by your Allianz Comprehensive Car Insurance policy when driving someone else's car.
Your insurance premium takes into account various factors, including, for example, the costs of fixing your car in the event of a claim. This cost will vary depending on whether the car must be replaced or if it can be repaired. Whilst the value of most cars will decrease over time (lowering the replacement cost) these claims occur much less frequently than accidental damage claims. Accidental damage claims require the car to be repaired and the cost of this usually increases each year in line with increases in the cost of parts, paint and labour. Therefore, completing the same repair to the same car will probably cost more in future years, even though the value of the car may reduce.
When you purchase comprehensive car insurance it does not include CTP (Compulsory Third Party Insurance). CTP, also known as a Green Slip in NSW, covers your liability and the liability of anyone else who drives your car for injuries you may have caused to other road users in a motor accident. CTP doesn't provide cover for any damage you cause to other people's cars or property. Find out more information about our CTP Insurance.

Cover for damaged windscreens is provided by your Allianz Comprehensive Car insurance policy, subject to payment of any applicable excess shown in your policy documentation.

We also offer an optional benefit which can remove excess on windscreen damage only claims in respect of one claim for full replacement and two claims for repairs in each period of insurance. For full details of conditions and exclusions refer to the relevant PDS.

  1. Driver exclusions apply if the driver is unlicensed, is not following the conditions of their license, refuses a drug or alcohol test, is under the influence of drugs or exceeds the legally allowed alcohol limit. Refer to the Comprehensive Car Insurance or Third Party Property Damage Car Insurance PDS for full driver, usage and other policy exclusions as set out in the "What's not covered" section. An additional excess applies to drivers under 25.

  2. Premiums payable by instalments may be subject to minor adjustments (upwards or downwards) due to rounding. Financial institution transaction fees may apply.

  3. EV charging accessories, including charging cables, wall chargers, and mounts, must be owned by the insured.

  4. We'll arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car after a covered collision where you are not at fault and have provided us with the at fault person's details.

  5. If you choose your own repairer, we may need a second quote from another repairer chosen by us just to make sure the quote you've received is reasonable. We may then authorise repairs, pay you reasonable repair costs or the car’s agreed value or replace your new car where policy conditions are met. No additional premium will be charged if the customer uses their own EV repairer.

  6. If you choose this option, we will arrange a rental car of a similar size and type to your car for as long as it takes to either fix your car, pay you the cost of repairs, or determine if your car is a total loss. This will apply after any covered incident, no matter who is at fault. If a rental car of a similar size and type (e.g. medium SUV) to your car is not available, we will pay you a travel allowance of $50 a day for as long as we would have given you a rental car. See the PDS for more details.

  7. Battery thermal runaway for EVs is covered under fire, provided there has been no deviation from manufacturer specification in relation to battery usage and charging.

  8. Choice to get the agreed value or get your new car replaced if it is a total loss within 2 years of its year of manufacture, provided the same make and model is available in Australia.
